Primal Blueprint Cookbook Review

Posted 31 Jul, 2010 in Uncategorized [ 7 Comments ]

I FINALLY got the Primal Blueprint Cookbook in the mail. I have to say that the book isn’t the prettiest as the photos and the book design is pretty basic. I admit that like books that look nice. This is something I learned from one of my poetry professors when I was in college who used to say that books should be packaged to reflect the beauty of the words that is inside. Maybe this is more applicable to poetry books than a cookbook.

Regardless of how the book looks, the content is excellent. It has a comprehensive section devoted to meats of all kinds- red meat, fowl, offal and seafood. Majority of the recipes are relatively easy to make with matching photos accompanying the instructions. This is especially useful with the meat recipes as I find cooking large pieces of meat to be daunting.

Majority of the recipes are dairy free and all of the recipes are grain-free and gluten free. But really the heart of book goes back to the Primal Blueprint’s Law #1- Eat Lots of Plants and Animals. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase and I can see this book becoming a favorite in my cookbook library.

I agree, I was disappointed with the look of it, the production is not great. Old fashioned and basic, as you say. But yes, the content makes up for it!

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about getting this for a friend of mine who’s curious about what I eat. I thought this would probably be the closest representative of my type of eating plan and a good cookbook for her to try (and to try to convert her, ha).

It’s really not a complicated way of eating when it comes down to it and the book does a good job of showing that.

  4. Janet says:

Not the prettiest book but it’s practical.

  5. Please let us know what you think! I read through the book and ended up not buying it (at a bookstore)…Looking forward to seeing which recipes you like!

I have owned the book for a couple of months and the recipes are great. I am not a fan of the coconut pancakes because there is just simply way too much coconut (the recipe from his blog is better). But, all the other recipes are simply awesome.

I even grill the steak exactly as Mark says (recipe #1) and it turns out perfect everytime. The italian pot roast is awesome even without the oxtail.

The Chili is one of my favorites and is even BETTER leftover!! This is because the flavors are able to “mingle.”

I think I’ll get the Kindle format/edition when it becomes available.
